Speedy Answers
Lots of site changes, but you won't see all of them. Hopefully, you'll notice the site is faster. But, I could use your help testing one new feature.
Introducing Answers
I’ve not been a fan of WordPress search. It has to do with the fact that they don’t index all of an article. So when I saw a demo for Frase Answers, I could see the benefits. If you look toward the bottom of the screen on the right side, you should see a textbox where you can enter a question or topic.
In the example below, I typed, “can I add an image to my signature .”Frase will then try to find the best content from this site to match your query and show suggestions before you hit Enter.
At this point, you can click a suggestion or hit Enter. In this example, I chose to hit Enter and Simon appears. Yes, I named the answer bot “Simon.”
- Shows your initial query
- Shows a text abstract from the article. Just enough to figure out if Simon answered correctly.
- A button to go to the article.
- A button to scroll down to the next suggestion.
- A button to indicate if the answer was helpful.
Most times, Simon will direct you to the correct article. Other times, he’ll indicate he’s not as confident and provides a link so people can contact me if necessary.
I’d appreciate it if you try out Simon and tell me your thoughts. And yes, I’m still training Simon.
Sticky Navigation and Back to Top
I won’t bore you with details, but I changed to a lighter-weight theme to improve site speed. One of the benefits is the navigation bar at the top becomes “sticky”. That means it will still show as you scroll down.
And if you want to get back to the top of the article quickly, there is a
square green ”Back to Top” button on the bottom left.
The Best Laid Plans…
One result of changing the theme and moving to the new WordPress block editor is that I broke some styling. I am cleaning up one area where I highlighted commands to put in an address or the formula bar. Most of these are Excel tutorials, but some about Google Chrome.
The article is fine, and the issue is aesthetic. However, I’m in the process of fixing them. And if you see anything that is broken, feel free to let me know.
