Random Act of Kindness Day
Yes, there is an international holiday with that name that started in New Zealand. I figured we could all celebrate on Feb. 17th.
And speaking of kindness, don’t forget to check the Offers page. I do post items companies have passed along.
Outlook Rules & Email Templates
If you’ve ever felt like you repeatedly answer the same email questions, I’ve got a new Microsoft Outlook tutorial. It introduces you to conditional rules and email templates. The use case I gave was if you ever have to let people know of new contact details.

Sharing WiFi Credentials
I may not have the fastest internet connection, but the most stable one in my building. So, when Comcast goes down, people ask if they can hop on my network.
Some routers have a built-in “share” feature that makes passing credentials easier. If yours doesn’t, try this site below. It will generate a WiFi QR code for you.
Google’s Mysterious 3 Vertical Dots
Have you seen the 3 vertical dots next to a search result in Google?
It’s a beta feature designed to tell you more about the site before you click. For example, when Google first indexed it or if they have a Wikipedia page. Oh…and whether the listing is an ad.
One thing it does make easier is getting to a cached page. That can be helpful if the site is ever having connection problems.
Convert Ebook Files to Kindle Format
I think most folks know I’m an Amazon Kindle fan. I find the form factor to be very convenient. However, the Kindle is fussy when it comes to file formats. The folks at MUO did an article outlining four programs that can convert files. My preference is Calibre, which I’ve used for PDFs.

And if you haven’t checked out Wowbrary, they can help you find Amazon books at your local library.
Think Twice About Browser Extensions
This week some people using the wildly popular The Great Suspender got a rude awakening. It seems the extension changed hands, and the new maintainer injected some malware. Both Google and Microsoft yanked it.
This incident is a good reminder that you always need to be vigilant about software. Not only do we need to do research before installing, but continue to watch. I see more of these incidents.
One site I like to peruse for these incidents and others is Bleeping Computer by Lawrence Abrams.
